Who runs the residencies?

The residencies are run by David Orme and Helen Orme. They are both ex teachers and have wide experience of working with children of all age and ability groups as well as working with adults.

What have they written?

David writes poetry, fiction and non-fiction books. He specialises in Hi-Lo fiction designed to inspire and encourage struggling and reluctant boys. (Although girls love his books too!) His latest, and most successful, series for boys is the Boffin Boy series. (Boffin Boy appears in the USA as Billy Blaster.) These books are produced as graphic novels and have a very high appeal.

Helen writes fiction and non-fiction books. Like David she writes Hi-Lo fiction but her books are designed to encourage girls to read and are usually 'real-life' stories about issues of  interest to girls. Her Siti's Sisters books are appropriate for readers between 10 and 14. She also writes more challenging stories for older readers.

Much of  their non-fiction work is written together and ranges from books of TV tie-ins, such as Dinosaur World (BBC- Walking with Dinosaurs) and Ocean World (BBC - The Blue Planet); to books of worksheets with such riveting titles as 150 Daily Maths Lessons for year 4!
Other recent non-fiction has been rather more interesting to write - they specialise in books about the natural world and environmental issues.

Between them they have written over 300 books, including poetry, fiction, non-fiction, picture books, school text books and CD ROMS.  David runs workshops in poetry and fiction; Helen in fiction and non-fiction.
